Freeze Your Credit!!!

Several minutes ago, I received notification that Equifax, one of the three large credit bureaus, was hacked.

The breach affects 143 million people in the United States! Given that the U.S. population is a bit over 300 million, that means you have near even odds of being affected.

See if you were affected here:

Even if you weren’t affected, it’s an important reminder to freeze your credit if you haven’t already.

A credit freeze does not

  • Change your credit score
  • Prevent you from checking said score
  • Keep you from opening a new account (get a temporary freeze lift)
  • Prevent a hacker from charging existing accounts

What a freeze does do, however, is prevent someone who may have your personal information from applying for credit cards or a loan/mortgage under your identity.

Freeze your credit by contacting:

Equifax at 1-800-349-9960 or

Experian at 1-888-397-3742 or

TransUnion at 1-888-909-8872 or
