5 For Friday: The Best FIRE Links of the Week (10/6/17)

5FF is a new feature of MSoLife.com and includes the best FIRE links of the previous week.

Occasionally I will also include other links to other topics if I find them interesting and/or helpful. Enjoy!

The 5 Best FIRE Links

In this week’s post, we catch up with Jason on his new adventure in Chiang Mai, Thailand. His fully decked-out new apartment costs a whopping $420 per month, or about 1/6th of my current rent here in Los Angeles. This post really highlights the advantages of geoarbitrage, which I featured in my post on the topic earlier this week.

Paula reminds us this week that it’s not all about money. Sometimes it feels like we can become a bit obsessed with this FI journey and it takes something awful to shock us into looking outside of our tunnel vision. As Mr. Rogers said, when you see something awful on TV, focus on the people running to help. The valor of so many people in Vegas that night is inspiring.

As my grandfather recently said to me, sometimes you see “el Infernio junto con la Gloria” (the Inferno together with Glory).

In this post, the folks at GoCurryCracker cover something I never thought I’d want to know about…tactically overdrawing their account and minimizing fees. It’s completely random and off-the-wall, but I found it very interesting. It’s good information to know if you’re ever in a similar situation as them, which I venture most of us will be at some point.

This is another post drawing the line between life and FIRE. The list is amusing and highlights the fact that most of us have some things we won’t compromise on, FI or not!

Here Mr. Crazy Kicks shows us how to build a DIY greenhouse. Since I plan to spend about half of my time post-retirement building cool shit, I loved this post. Why buy something when you can build it yourself? Learning to build things teaches you how to fix them as well, and this type of habit can help ensure that you keep your expenses in check.

That’s All, Folks

That’s all I’ve got for you this week. Go forth and conquer the weekend as a slightly wiser version of yourself!

Which post(s) resonated with you most this week? Is there a post that you loved that you think I should check out? Let me know!
